DEVIANT LIFE
I've been on dA since 2005 and a senior member since 2007. I've been a Community Volunteer twice, first looking after Photography > Horror & Macabre (November 2008 - June 2010) and Photography > Darkroom (June 2012 - May 2013). I've also adminned various groups over the years but these days I'm pretty much just here to share and enjoy art.

OFFLINE LIFE
Photography was my job but is no longer, for health reasons. I still point my camera at things for fun though, so all is not lost. Work is managing online communications for an art performance charity and running a little techie business with my husband. I'm also studying for a BSc in Forensic Psychology. Hobbies include obsessing over entertainment media and literature of a dark nature, writing (under a pseudonym, because I like to compartmentalise) and playing with fire. I share my home with one large man, two small cats, an albino axolotl, five goldfish, a family of aquatic snails and more computers than two people realistically need.

Do people comment less now?

Journal Entry: Tue May 26, 2015, 5:34 AM

Having been away from dA (yes, I will probably always write it with the small 'd' and capital 'A' cause it's stuck in my mind as the way it is written) for a while and sort of drifting in and out for a couple of years before that, there have been lots of changes I've noticed and probably lots more that have passed me by. I feel a bit like I'm finding my way around again. It's kind of an adventure, discovering new things or old things in new places.

Something I'm wondering about is, do people comment less now than they used to a few years ago? I'm not complaining or griping or being all "change is bad mmm'kay?" and as nice as it is when people comment on my work, I'm not bothered if they don't. I post stuff here just to share it and I'm not looking for feedback or critique or anything, so when it comes to comments, I can take them or leave them. I just noticed that my older stuff would get loads of comments and my newer stuff maybe gets a few, but not always. This might be completely down to me not being super active on the site or maybe it's a combination of that and a general trend away from commenting.

What do you think? Deviants who have been here for a few years, have you noticed a difference in how many times people comment on your work? Do you think it's directly related to how active you are on the site or is it just the direction things have moved in, or is it a bit of both?

All of you, even if you've only been here for a few months or a few weeks - why do you share your work on dA? Is it just for the sake of sharing it or are you hoping for feedback and/or critique? Do favourites matter more to you than comments, or vice versa, or are you not particularly bothered about either, or equally as happy with either?

Go on, satisfy my curiosity!

Yay! Sunny bank holiday Monday means adventures and photos :-)
Just being reminded that there are few things in the world that make me feel as happy and at peace as spending hours on dA. Love this place.
Found this super useful collection of cheat sheets for anyone wanting to get to grips with the manual settings on their camera. The more you know! digital-photography-school.com…
Munching on dairy-free white choc easter eggs and setting up an Instagram account for my photography. Happy Sunday!
I'm kind of in the mood to be helpful and give some critiques but all I can think of to say is "Just create something you think is beautiful, something that brings you joy". Maybe it's not the right night for helpful critiques after all.

I thought I already was too, but I'm silly. Ages ago when I wasn't using dA much I went through my watch list and thought I'd stopped deviations etc from appearing in my message centre since I wasn't checking it anyway. What I'd actually done was unwatched a whole heap of people and I'm only getting around to hunting everyone down again now that I'm back using dA regularly.

I haven't had that happen to me before, thankfully. But there were several occasions where I was absolutely sure I used to watch someone but they didn't appear on my watchlist. I don't know what happened there. I've heard more people about it as well D:

Love your quote from Anais Nin, her writing was quite controversial for the time. My fav - Little Birds.

Thank you for the fav.

A quote for you from Mr Wilde. Hope you don't mind and I think it fits with yours.

“There are moments when one has to choose between living one's own life, fully, entirely, completely-or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands.”
