We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.
- Anais Nin

I've been on dA since 2005 and a senior member since 2007. I've been a Community Volunteer twice, first looking after Photography > Horror & Macabre (November 2008 - June 2010) and Photography > Darkroom (June 2012 - May 2013). I've also adminned various groups over the years and am currently a Moderator at Through-a-Lens, a Contributor at projecteducate and a photography mentor at seniormentors.

As well as photography, I manage online communications for an art performance charity, run a little techie business with my husband and am also studying for a BSc in Forensic Psychology. Hobbies include obsessing over entertainment media and literature of a dark nature, writing (under a pseudonym, because I like to compartmentalise) and playing with fire. I share my home with one large man, two small cats, an albino axolotl, four goldfish, a family of aquatic snails and more computers than two people realistically need.

Do you actively want detailed critique on the work you upload to DA?

19 deviants said YES! I want as much detailed feedback as possible, even if it's not always positive, to help me improve my art.
18 deviants said I don't mind. I'm happy to receive detailed critique but I'm not bothered if I don't.
9 deviants said No. I post here mainly just to share and while comments are nice, I'm not looking for critique.
5 deviants said Not really. I'm working on improving my art in my own way and would rather not receive negative feedback here.
2 deviants said Definitely not. I have comments turned off on my submissions.

Blood, blogging and blethering

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 8, 2015, 9:59 AM
I hardly ever do personal updates in my DA journal any more and from what I've seen in my notifications, other people don't seem to be doing much of that either these days. It's a shame cause I'm nosey as hell and I like reading about what you're all doing in your lives so I figured if I'm going to appeal to y'all to get your personal bits out, then I ought to as well. So here goes, what I've been up to lately...

It's October, the month when everyone obsesses over creepy make-up and costumes and I get super inspired to get stuck into some horror photography. I took my first horror photo in ages the other day. It's a macro shot, cause I'm so in love with macro photography right now, and it felt so good to break open my gigantic bottle of fake blood and get messy. Honestly, right now I could happily spend the rest of the month doing nothing but horror art. This might actually happen. You have been warned.

My recent big mission was moving from to a self-hosted WordPress site. Oh my gods, it was such a steep learning curve for me! I've never really delved into the inner workings of WordPress as a platform before but since I've been getting a lot more heavily into blogging lately, I thought it was time I took the plunge. Many hours were spent in front of the computer (totally not tearing my hair out, honest) getting everything sorted but I feel like I've suddenly learned how to access this amazing new world and I'm loving it.

Work stuff is busy and wonderful too. Beltane Fire Society, who I run online communications for, are gearing up for our Samhuinn Fire Festival in Edinburgh so it's all go! Our Facebook page shot through 10k Likes last week, which feels pretty awesome cause we have such an engaged and enthusiastic audience. Approaching the festival itself at the end of the month, then for a week or so afterwards, I'm pretty much stuck to my computer doing all the things and it's so much fun. I'll also be doing live photo and video updates from the festival on Facebook and Twitter, which is very exciting.

So that's my life at the moment. What have you all been getting up to?

dropping by to see how a real photographer takes photos.
i am thinking of giving up and taking my camera and letting my pet turtle have it for his habitat.
maybe he can use it.

I think you should hang on to the camera and play with it some more, but definitely don't let your turtle near your paints ;)
