Foot & Photography: Me
Location: My shower!

Explanation (I'd love it if you read this before commenting).
On the surface, this is a fetish portrait - pretty shoes and handcuffs. If that's all you want to take from it, then that's cool. Sometimes pure aesthetic is what appeals. But this photograph has a deeper meaning for me and was inspired by bigger things than just shoes (although shoes are great!). This photograph was inspired by those days when you feel like the ugliest person in the world and nothing anyone says is going to make any difference, when you don't WANT people to try to convince you that you're seeing yourself through shit-tinted glasses because other people's opinions don't matter when you feel like that.

It is dedicated to everyone who has ever heard "Why do YOU feel ugly?" or "HOW could YOU feel ugly?" and to everyone who has learned from experience that it's easier just to keep their mouth shut when they're feeling down because if they try to express it people will just assume that they're fishing for compliments or feeling sorry for themselves or looking for attention. It's dedicated to everyone who has suffered from an eating disorder or depression or body dysmorphic disorder, and to everyone who has gone through life with everyone around them assuming they can cope with everything because of how they look or how they dress or how they don't cry in public, no matter how bad things get.

It is dedicated to everyone who has trapped themselves inside a smile, who has hidden behind make-up and pretty clothes, who has gone a day (or two or three) without eating because they can't cope with the guilt, who has ever wanted to put their fist through a mirror (or actually has put their fist through a mirror). To the ones who have 'recovered' on the outside, but who know that fixing the inside is never as easy as people assume.

You have permission to cry, even when you can't give a rational explanation as to why (no matter how much you'd like to be able to). You have permission to feel like shit and want to hide instead of plastering on the fake smile and being the strong resilient person that everyone expects you to be (or wants you to be, or needs you to be). You have permission not to justify your feelings to anyone unless you want to. You have permission to be yourself - on the good days, the bad days and the worse days. And you have permission to see, even if the times when you can are few and far between, the amazing and beautiful person you really are.

Read this.

Indeed the shoes are great.
And the meaning... I'm speechless, coz I know how it's like.

I love this...not only because it's an awesome photo but because of the meaning behind it as well, I think we've all tried to put on a brave face and pretended everything's alright when it's not. And I'm sure everyone's not happy with the way they are all the time, well I know I'm not, lol. I hate it when people expect you to be something, when you can't...

Great description and piece :)

I certainly like the idea, tho I think you should play around a little with color levels and selective color to give it that >special< look.

I didn't want to do anything with it. It would be easy to alter it in PhotoShop, but I purposely altered all the settings inside the camera so that it didn't need any postwork. I get all weird and perfectionisty about stuff like that sometimes :) It sounds silly, but it looks exactly the way I wanted it to look without any alterations afterwards and it feels good to achieve that sometimes (not that there's anything wrong with postwork, it's just not something I choose to do all the time).

Those are awesome shoes!
your shower is an awesome background
You have gorgeous ankles :eyes:

It's a great shot Tanya, and because it made you feel good, it's even better. I say :+fav:, not just for a beautiful photo, but for a great meaning, and an excellent pair of shoes ;)

 Thank you! I put all my negative energy into getting the lighting and levels exactly how I wanted them before I took the photo so I didn't have to do any work afterwards. It's amazing how working on something technical helps heal the mind.

I love the shoes...they're new and I wore them for the first time today and nearly killed myself. I swear, I haven't work 'proper' shoes in about a year and a half and my legs and back were so not ready for walking around town in them today!

I see now where you were going, well creating images is all about making it just the way you want it and not others. Great job anyhow :)

 Thank you very much. I love being able to create something that people can relate too, because I know how cool it feels to find a piece of artwork by someone else that I relate to.
