Those whispers, unfounded opinion, a stab in the back, hurt so much that they cut your mouth coming out...
How this was made The blood is fake (glycerine with red and blue food dye) and there's a section cut out of the blade so it sat over my lip. I did not injure myself in any way taking this photograph, and as hypocritical as it is, I don't recommend anyone else goes putting razorblades in their mouth for any reason.
tl;dr This is a photograph, created with physical, not digital, effects. This photograph does not depict real injury, blood or gore.
Firstly, I think we can all agree that at first glance of this phenomenal work, it makes you cringe just at the sight of it.
It is clear the artist has a fantastic knowledge of stage makeup and gore. And, despite the fact that it's merely a cut lip, it still effectively portrays horror in such a simple way.
I enjoy the added lip ring that makes your eye move around the image apposed to just stay in one place. The blade is perfectly portrayed and the fact that's it's more than just a needle or knife through the lip definitely displays the creativity; this is because of the fact that it's a much larger object to show the illusion of injury with. Not only that, but I adore the fact that the blood is messily spread around the mouth apposed to merely dripping down the wound. With all this aside, the only thing I could say that needs improvement are possibly the colours. I love the fact that the colours are so simple.
The silver works nicely and isn't nearly over bearing, it was also a good idea to keep both the lip ring as well as the blade the same. The blood is completely realistic and I wouldn't change that for the world.
The only thing that is slightly out of place for me would be the skin. I feel as though a slightly low-saturation skin would make for even more emphasis on the wound, without taking away from the subject.
Overall, for being a fairly simple piece it clearly makes the audience gasp which was evidently the overall message. It portrays gore in a beautiful way and photography at it's finest.
