I was thinking, is it possible to take a MySpace style photograph and still end up with a reasonably artistic result? I tried - took a photo at the famous 'looking up' angle (shame this has gotten such a bad rep, cause it can be a really nice angle to shoot people from), used a very strong flash to bleach out the skin, touched up any flaws, burnt in darker eye make-up and ended up with the above image, more processed that I'm happy with doing in my usual photography, but fit for this purpose.

I then thought...why do so many MySpace style pictures on here (never mind on MySpace itself) look so crap? People have answered, quite rightly, that its cause most of them are taken with phonecams or webcams, or without any particular artistic intent. So I was inspired...

The 'experience' (and I call it that because it's not a contest and there are no prizes, it's just a bit of fun) involves sharing your own MySpace-style photos. Because it's possible to make these sort of photos look quite good, there will be two categories.

Quite artistic, actually.

Oh my god, it's hideous!

The Oh my god, it's hideous category is for the joke ones. I want links so i can display the collection of everyone's efforts here. You can take a new photo, or new photos (with a 'real' camera or a phonecam, whichever is more appropriate) or link me to one(s) you already have in your gallery or scraps but please don't submit the 'hideous' joke ones to the photography gallery on dA.

All you gotta do is comment here or note me with a link to your MySpace picture(s). You can submit to either category or both, but please tell me which you're submitting to when you send me your link - I don't want to inadvertantly insult anyone

In case you haven't realised, this is a bit of fun, something silly that popped into my head last night. I'm not encouraging people to take bad photos to submit here as art. Obviously you don't have to participate, so if you don't find this sort of thing amusing you can exit stage left and not have a go at anyone!

And look - it's not just humans getting in on the act. ~thesmu's cat (aptly called SpaceFace) and Bratz doll have joined in!
