piratephotography tagged me with a really interesting tag - to state 20 things I want to achieve in life. I'm going with 10 or my journal would get way too long.
There's some serious stuff and some trivial stuff, some art stuff and some life stuff in no particular order. Here goes...
[ 01 ]
To exhibit my horror and fetish work. It's not hard to find somewhere to show pretty portraits and conceptual art, but finding somewhere to show gore and erotic art is somewhat less easy. The whole exhibiting thing is fucking expensive too.
[ 02 ]
To get a publishing deal. As great as it is to be able to self-publish photography books (and it is great - check out Blurb.com if you want to make and sell your own book), I would love to get a publishing deal, preferably for my horror and fetish stuff, and have proper international distribution for my books.
[ 03 ]
To do pro bono work shooting beautiful portraits of people recovering from eating disorders. Having been in that place myself, I know how fucking difficult it is to accept that you do, in fact, looking absolutely fine the way you are. One of my favourite things about shooting portraits is that look on a person's face when they see true beauty in their own image. I want to be able to give that to people who really need it.
[ 04 ]
To own a big huge fluffy dog. First, I need somewhere to put it and enough money to feed it. This isn't a short-term goal!
[ 05 ]
To do some extreme driving. On a race track, rally driving, off-roading, amphibious vehicles, I don't mind. Just something more exciting than driving a Toyota Starlet on British roads.
[ 06 ]
To photograph any or all of the following: Trent Reznor, Mike Patton, Chris Cornell, Richard Patrick, Jared Leto, Adrian Grenier, Sir Ian McKellan. I absolutely LOVE photographing men, and those are some of the most interesting looking men I've ever seen.
[ 07 ]
To own a mountain bike again. A couple of years back I had to sell my gorgeous GT iDrive to pay the rent. I couldn't ride it at the time anyway (turns out having M.E. isn't conducive to partaking in extreme sports) but I was still totally gutted, and I still miss the feeling of flying down a big flight of concrete steps with nothing but balls of steel to ensure a safe landing. When I sold my bike I felt like I'd finally handed over a piece of freedom that I'd been desperately clinging to since becoming ill. But one day, I will be fit to ride a bike again and I WILL own another one!
[ 08 ]
To renew my wedding vows somewhere totally awesome. When D and I got married, we did it in secret to avoid all the bullshit that surrounded us at the time (I'm not going to get into it, but it was bad enough that we left the country shortly afterwards). While this meant that we actually got to enjoy our wedding day without having anyone ruin it for us, it also meant that our friends couldn't be there. We have this fab idea about renting out part of the (haunted!) vaults under the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to renew our vows on some big anniversary. Since our 5th has already passed, it'll maybe be our 10th (by the time we can afford it). I don't care when it happens, I just want to do it!
[ 09 ]
To have my own photography studio. I would fucking LOVE my own studio, and it would be very cool to be able to rent it out for not much money to people who are just starting out in photography and don't have lots to spend on their own studio gear. I'd love to own some gallery space too, not only to exhibit my own work but also to be able to allow other people who shoot unconventional photos to exhibit their work too. Being able to fund all that for other people as well as myself would be fantastic...lottery win, maybe?
[ 10 ]
To own a Maserati. Definitely a lottery win for that one, especially with how much the insurance would cost.
