Darkroom Exposed is a series of articles highlighting talented deviants, noteworthy art and helpful information all about the Photography > Darkroom gallery on dA.
This issue features HDR (high dynamic range) photography, which allows for a greater dynamic range (variation between the light and dark areas) than regular photography. This can have a range of effects, between creating an image more like what you see with your eyes and depicting hyper-real results with a painterly feeling.
Some digital cameras can shoot HDR in-camera but HDR images can also be created using digital editing software with multiple exposures of the same scene. 'Fake' HDR can also be created from just one exposure. Here are some beautiful examples of HDR photography...

I've done a few HDR images, and I think the key is to build the image so that it doesn't look like an HDR image. When I look at a few of those thumbnails, I just say "Yup that's HDR, yup that one too", and it's really unfortunate, since they're more like photographic manipulations than straight up photographs at that point. Of course, just about all photography goes through some manipulations, but I think the best HDR work is when you look at it and see an amazing photograph first, then you realize how well defined all the exposures are in each part of the image. If you see outlandish colors and painting effects first, I think that's HDR for the sake of an HDR-like image.
There's a bit of extra work to get it all right... but it's a lot of fun too!
Thanks for the feature. Marvelous pieces.
