On the importance of submitting icons correctly.Why this journal?
The reason I'm writing this journal is because miscatting has become quite a popular practice on dA and as such it needs to be addressed from time to time. Before a new Icon-CV had been appointed (say hi to ^ValaSedai as the new Icon-CV!), I had discussed with ^ClefairyKid about writing up a small journal (though likely text-wall) about the importance of correctly submitting icons and pixel art.
While some deviants may be doing it on purpose, due to the recent changes in the Fair Exposure-algorythm, a lot of you don't, which is why I hope this journal helps clear up some misunderstandings about both galleries. Most of the info in this journal caters specifically towards iconists, so iconists: welcome to you!
But even if you aren't an iconist, the information in this article will hopefully still be beneficial to you: welcome to you as well!

Points Challenge: Be A Hero, Report a Miscat!
Miscats: What are they? Why do they matter? How do they happen?
REMINDER: This challenge is only open until October 31st! Get your comments in by then or miss out on points!
A "miscat" is a deviation that has been submitted to the wrong gallery, or mis-categorized, on deviantART. For example, literature does not belong in the photography gallery, even if there is a photograph supplied as a preview picture for the writing.
They matter for several reasons. Miscats make searching for specific types of deviations tedious, particularly if you are looking for newer submissions. A search of the Writing Tutorials gallery for popular deviations in the last 24 hours brought up four deviations, all miscats. Miscats also make the site disorganized and even harder to navigate for new comers. Lastly, they make your work harder to reach by taking up space in the wrong gallery.

This tiny insignificant thing mildly displeases meI love browsing the Suggestions forum but am seriously blown away by how many times people post threads suggesting/requesting/demanding that dA alter the way the site works in order that they never have to see anything that isn't to their specific personal taste.
I'm not talking about the Mature Content filter or submissions with violate dA's policies here. I mean people expecting the entire site to change so that they don't ever encounter a thumbnail-sized image of a cat or My Little Pony or [insert other random object or concept here] while looking at the front page in Newest or Popular modes.
I find myself typing pretty much the same thing to these people on a regular basis, so thought it would be easier to simply make a journal about it that I can link to. So here it is.

As mentioned in the intro, the biggest problem when it comes to Daily Deviations arises with the choice of words used to describe what a Daily Deviaton is. When you call it an award, people will automatically assume that the Daily Deviation is the cream of the crop of every deviation posted ever on this site and that no art featured after it should be able to be perceived as "worse". Holiday Card Project - Monroe Clinic HospitalHello all,
I had the pleasure of being able to take 80 cards from the Holiday Card Project and drop them off at my local hospital, thus spreading some cheer here in Wisconsin! The package with the cards arrived Wednesday evening and I was excited to get them sent off to the hospital however I had to wait until Friday because of a silly blizzard.
For the sake of showing off how amazing this community is, I took a picture of a few cards which are now at my local hospital.

I wish I could have taken photos of all of the wonderful cards, but I wanted to be sure they remained categorized as well as safe from the hands of my children. If anyone recognizes any of these cards as their own I'd love to know who sent them all.
After clearing off my car which was covered in nearly a foot of snow ^laserbeast and I drove to our local hospital to drop off all of the cards.

Members are more than welcome to self suggest their own art work for a Daily Deviation, in fact many CVs highly encourage self suggestions. While self suggesting may have been something people frowned upon in the past, this is thankfully no longer the case as we all recognize the need for self promotion in the competitive world of art.

There is no shame in trying to get yourself and your work seen. By self suggesting you are merely looking to gain more exposure from a broader audience. Look at it this way, if you're not willing to advertise your own work and get more clients and exposure, who will?

hello all
I do not know if I am involved in DA, but my only problem, as there is a size I do not speak do not speak English
I think it must have big drawbacks for editors and many other things
already involved, yes I am, but perhaps not enough for the level of English language barrier.
