Some acknowledgment is loads better than none. At least I'd know my comment was read. No other way I'd find out. Just how the internet works. All we really have is typing.
I pretty much always want to respond, when someones commenting on me..... and I do want to have atleast a thank you comment from a regurlar member (though I don't find it completely necessary)... That said depending on how popular the artist is, I might not even bother to comment as they might not even read it anyways....
It's interesting that a simple thank-you and no response necessary are at a practical tie.
I like a detailed response, because when I comment I usually put a lot of thought into it- and I try to say more than "thanks" every time. I like to try and connect with my audience, and I like to feel that my comments are thought provoking I suppose ahah. I am such a chatterbox too so it's nice to have a conversation with strangers.
I think we've discussed this before... I understand people are busy but even just a thank you is appreciated.
If I'm going to write more than PURDY I WUV IT! I want more than ............... Of course, like I said to the fave thing, I don't chase people down and flip nuts over it.
At the same time, 98 percent of the time, I don't really pay attention to what comments are replied to, but if I do notice I comment on the same persons work over and over with REAL comments, I stop commenting why waste both our time?
I guess it really depends. I prefer a response, but I don't go all crazy and rampant if I don't get one. But response are appreciated...

Which reminds me, I've a small backlog of stuff to leave comments on.
I don't expect a reply because time is valuable, but it makes me smile when I get a "thank you", and feel honored to receive any more than that.
