The music that we play tends to push people away and those who choose to stay, listen and encourage us are the people that fully comprehend what we're trying to achieve.
I voted for a cult following but really, it would be neither. People are free to worship me but if they do that, I'll push them away, I'll point out the obvious flaw of looking up to someone that is equal or even inferior to them. I wear cheap clothes, I drive an old car and I always play with the loosing team, by choice. That should say a lot about who I am.
Mass appeal is good...but just as fast as it comes in, it can disappear just as quickly. With a cult following, it's like a flowing under-current that slowly picks up momentem...almost becoming something of a precious rarity...(those awfully budget movies by Ed Wood, or even Blade Runner) to name a few. Even Star Wars had started out with a cult following before it became famous.
